We were interstate purchasers who were looking to move from Sydney to Hobart in Tasmania. We had found a beautiful waterfront property that appeared to be well built and in immaculate condition. Peter from FBI found significant defects that to repair, were in excess of the limit set in a multi-million dollar contract. Even though Peter had pressure from the agent he stood firm and I felt I had someone I could trust representing our interests and he provided a document certifying that the defects were above the limit in the contract. Additionally, Peter has helped us find names of reputable builders and give us guidance on the local area which was invaluable for people not knowing Tasmania well. My company recently engaged the services of Peter Genders and his Company Fit Building Inspections to undertake a complicated survey an assessment of a building substructure , for a property which my company was putting to market. Peter was able to use his immense building experience to investigate and advise on an appropriate resolution and provide a scope of works to fix the problem. As an added service Peter was able to coordinate the appropriate tradespeople to undertake the remedial works and the engineering professionals to provide the appropriate approvals of the work prior to sale. He is a first class operator with great attention to detail. We have since referred him to other clients for presale building reports, and will continue to do so.

Buying a house was a fairly daunting process for me as I was doing it all on my own. But right from the get go I felt I was in good hands with Peter. During the pre-sale building inspection Peter identified a number of defects, the main one being electrical issues. He recommended I get an electrician to look into these further as his view was they may be significant. The electrician confirmed Peter’s suspicions; there were serious electrical defects that needed attention immediately. This triggered the Defect Rectification Clause in the sale contract. As I still wished to proceed with the contract, I was able to negotiate a price reduction. Peter’s final report was very thorough. It meant I could make a fully informed decision when it came to purchasing the house. I would highly recommend him for anyone who wants an honest appraisal.
